In normal use, our systems allow air to be circulated and moved throughout the building. During a fire the systems are designed to close either by the fire itself through the intumescent properties of the product, or via a motorised actuator linked to the alarm system.

In normal use, the Pyroplex system allows air to be circulated and moved throughout the building. During a fire the system is designed to close and provide a fire barrier to restrict the passage of hot gases.
Pyroplex Air Transfer Grille Systems are tested for 30 and 60 minutes fire resistance. Test Reports No.146520/146521 and 148053 apply - combined within Assessment Report No.149511.

However, a building also needs to be well ventilated for the health and comfort of its occupants. Systems of natural and mechanical ventilation often require ducting to pass through fire resistant walls and floors, and this can compromise the fire containment in the building. The Lorient solution is to fit intumescent air transfer grilles at the point where the fire resistant wall or floor is breached. Under normal circumstances these grilles allow air to pass freely through the building. However, in the event of fire the slats and frame swell to many times their original thickness, fusing together to form a non-combustible mass which provides fire resistance to match the surrounding construction, and prevents the passage of hot smoke and gases. When combined with automatic smoke control systems, Lorient's intumescent air transfer grilles will also provide protection against cold smoke. These electrically powered dampers/shutters are connected to a standard smoke or fire alarm/detection system which, when triggered, causes the dampers/shutters to close thereby preventing the passage of cold smoke. Under normal circumstances the dampers/shutters remain open allowing the free passage of air.
